Deck Patio and Porch Painters Geelong

Every house should have a deck, and if there is no room for a deck, then there should be a patio, or even a porch. An opportunity to spend a bit of time outside of the house is a necessity.

Consequently every deck, patio or porch gets a lot of foot traffic. Which is why you need to have your decks, patios or porches painted  or stained periodically by professional painters like us.

When it was new, the deck was a place where you liked to spend some time with family and friends. When it was new it invited you to spend time. You couldn’t stay away.

But over the course of years, the deck became less inviting. Spills from breakfast or coffee started to become more obvious. Kids and pets, sun and rain, dirt, overhanging trees, mildew, mould and just everyday life combined to make your deck, or patio, or porch, into an unappealing place.

Just foot traffic alone brings scuff marks, not to mention the toy cars and ride-ons that the little ones like to bring out on the deck.

There’s a way you can rejuvenate these areas easily, without knocking them down and rebuilding. It may be that they just need a new coat of paint. Or maybe staining.

At Quality Finish Painters Geelong, part of our extensive range of services is to bring the decks, porches and patios of Geelong back to prime condition.

But why, you ask, should we bother painting our decks?

There are advantages to rejuvenating your deck, and you can probably come up with others.

To start with, a “new” deck will bring new life to your home. Just a repainted deck alone will lift the appearance of the whole house. Your guests will be impressed, your family will be happy, and it would increase the value of your house if you are deciding whether to sell. All visual improvements will have a positive effect on potential buyers.

Another advantage is that painting or staining your deck, particularly the floor, will keep you safe. A wooden deck floor may warp over time due to water absorption. This may become a slip and fall hazard. To prevent accidents, a coat of stain or paint can protect the wooden floor from this problem.

So, we can stain or paint your deck, or even a combination of both, but you need to make an informed decision about which is best in your circumstances.

A stain has sealing properties that will certainly protect your floor, and will enhance the colours and patterns in the timber. Staining is a cheaper procedure, because the stain contains a preservative that paint may not have. So as well as the cost of the paint, you may need the preservative and primer as well. So painting might be more expensive, but it will last longer than staining, up to 10 years in fact. And a quick hose with a soft broom will keep it looking good.

So the choice is between a natural wood appearance, or a brightly (or sedately) coloured result which may be considered unnatural, since the paint covers up the woodgrain … but also covers up minor cracks and faults. The colour choice is yours, and if you want chartreuse and vermilion we will not argue with you.

But think on this – we can paint over a stained floor, but we can’t stain over a painted floor.
